Throw Back

Totally random.

When I was in middle school I loved the song "Susie Q" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. I would pull out my Dad's old CCR records and play their songs in the living room of my parents house. No one would be home so I would turn up the volume on my parents old but absolutely awesome stereo (seriously I call dibs on that thing). I would play with the volume knob and turn the music up and down with the beat of the music. I would run and jump through the house until I was out of breath. I'm a terrible dancer so it really was just running and jumping through the house, hilarious. Anyways, to this day I love this song. I also love how music has the ability to help you reminisce about some of the best times.

Play me something good.

OK so I was listening to WFPK the other day and I shazamed this song by Freelance Whales (I told you I love SHAZAM). Later that day I received an email from one of my favorite websites and it had the same band as the topic of the day. Crazy, right? OK so maybe it's not that exciting but I still really like the song.

When I first heard the song on the radio I didn't recognize all of the different instruments in the background. However in the video the band plays acoustically and it is so much cooler. I mean I totally want to play the xylophone in a band, or better yet I do have a tamborine that needs to be put to good use.

Live is always better.

Last night I went to Zanzabar to meet up with my friend, Tyler, and watch Mayer Hawthorne perform. May I remind you that last night was a Wednesday and probably not the best idea for my 7am wake up call. Oh well because it was worth it.

I hadn't heard of Mayer before Tyler sent me the link to his myspace.

Artist: Mayer Hawthorne
Song: Your Easy Lovin' Ain't Please Nothin

I have to admit I listened to a few songs and wasn't crazy. However live performances are always better, and now I have him on replay. Part of it had to do with the fact that Zanzabar has a vary small performance area making it way more intimate. I also had a turkey club for a late night dinner, and if you know me then you know a turkey club always make me happy. Anyways check this guy out. He has a very retro soul vibe. I would recommend going to his myspace, but I always fall back on itunes to get samples of music. Apple just makes it so easy.

Now I know that I'm too young

My life has just begun. Suss Sussudio oh oh.

The song Sussudio by Phil Collins was a total accident. Phil was in the studio one day improvising with a drum machine when he created the sound "suss sussudio". While he was writing the track he continued to use the made up word to imitate the beat it simulated. Phil always planned on replacing sussudio with a real word; however, he was never able to find another lyric that had the same rhythm as sussudio.

So sussudio stuck. I have to say I wish I could so smoothly stutter words that sounded like beats.

Oh and yes Phil and I are on a first name basis.

Riddle Me Now

This song is from the band State Radio's first album, Us Against the Crown, released in 2005. They have released several albums since this one, but this is my absolute favorite. It is the perfect example of how a song can get stuck in your head, but in a good way.

Alright Alright Alright

Ok so if you have an iphone I recommend getting the shazam application. I have had it for about a year now and use it daily. You simply open then app while a song you want to recognize is playing and Shazam tells you the artist and song title. Like SHAZAM!

This is the way I figure out a lot of songs on tv, in restaurants, and on the radio. Plus it saves whatever you tag so that you can go back later on and review them.

Well this week when I was watching a show, slightly embarassed to mention that it was gossip girl, I shazamed this little diddy.

Artist: Florence + The Machine
Song: Dog Days are Over

Real crazy video but then again the artist says she gets her best inspiration when she is drunk or hungover so that explains a lot.

Little Bit of Feel Good

Alright so this is the deal. I'm pretty much obsessed with listening and finding music. I spend a lot of my free time getting lost in itunes or scanning the internet for new jams. I'm not selective....for example everything from my man Phil, Dierks Bentley, Paul Simon, Van Morrison to the Phoenix, Fela Kuti, and the Avett Brothers is currently in shuffle mode on my computer. Sometimes I get lucky and find an artist I'm unfamilar with, but a lot of times I just revisit oldies but goodies. Honestly I just enjoy a good beat.

So if we can work together on this than all will not go to waste. Feel free to share anything you think I can add to my shuffle mode, and hopefully you will gain a few new musical favorites in return!

Pumped.
